It was recently brought to my attention that we have yet to post our dates of travel. For our absolute nearest and dearest we will provide the link to our Google calendar (shameless plug from Kate: I love that the gmail calendar can accept text messages from your phone and add events to your calendar using regular, plain ol' English!) so that they can have our flight info, etc. For the rest of our readers, here's a basic itinerary:
July 17th: we fly to Peru
July 20th - 25th: Spanish classes
July 23rd: Lisa's familia arrives
July 26th - 29th: Llama trek
July 30th: Puno/Machu Picchu
Aug 2nd: Kate back to Lima
Aug 3rd: Kate back to the states
Aug 7th: Lisa et familia return to the states
We will try to post while we're in Lima, Cuzco, and Puno but we definitely won't be able to post along the llama trek.
For our friends and family who say, "this is pretty vague," you're right. This is pretty vague because the blog is open to anyone who chooses to browse through Blogger.com. Before we leave we'll send a mass email to our friends and co-workers with some more details.

Got your e-mail today in which you announced this blog.
Did you know that Peru is named for Birú, a Panamanian chief who lived in the region when the Spanish arrived? Did you also know that there is a word in Hebrew "Peru" (פרו) which means "be fruitful" (as in the Biblical directive to "be fruitful and multiply and replenish the Earth" (Gen. 9:1). May your and Lisa's trip to Peru be a fruitful one! Have an AMAZING time and bring me back some quinoa and potatos! :-)
Please tell us more about the Llama trek! What do you expect it to be?
And the rest of Lisa's family will be joining the expedition about 6 days in. By then we expect Kate and Lisa to have Peru subdued.

The trek is run by Peru Adventure Tours. Follow the link; it has lots of info about the organization. We'll wait... ;-)
The tour is called "Lares Trekking" because it highlights the unique and beautiful Lares Valley. The trek is described in exhaustive detail as Llama Trek To Machu Picchu.
Because of subsequent plans, we won't be staying the optional extra night at Aguas Calientes.
